Excerpts from a Chief Coroner's report, Yukon Territory, in a death caused by a bear mauling:

...Bear experts say that one can encounter a bear at any time of the year. Some bears do not hibernate.

...Recommendation #3 - The employer should provide animal deterrents such as bear spray, air horns and bangers....

Bear spray has halted bears, allowing time for people to escape. It is noted that the deceased had time to use his phone and therefore may have had time to deploy the bear spray...
